The main reason I do the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is to honor of my mother, Maureen Corcoran, a breast cancer survivor. During my final years in high school, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, I really had no idea how what was in store for her. When she started with her radiation treatments, it appeared to be just another routine trip to the doctor’s office, unbeknownst to me that this was just the beginning her of war with the disease.

It wasn’t until Chemo began where I really started to see the havoc that this menace really causes to the person. My mother’s energy levels were at an all time low, food, when desired, wouldn’t stay down, tears filled her eyes each and every day as she realized that even the simplest things in life were now monumental tasks. I am sure negative thoughts constantly barraged her mind; however, she was/is a warrior and always kept a positive attitude, never letting the anguish show to her friends and family. I love you Mom, you have always been a hero in my eyes and I’m glad that I have a chance to tell you that.

I hold very fond memories of her trying on wigs after her long raven hair fell out and laughing alongside her as she decided that she wasn’t going to hide her condition under a wig. She went bald for the remainder of her treatments, standing tall and proud. I think she enjoyed it so much, that even after she won her battle, she decided to keep her hair short. Although I’m sure it was for convenience sake, I know it also acted as a daily reminder of the battle she just won. She has a heart of gold and has reached out to other women to aid them through their battles.

I’m a blessed one, my mother is still around and able to play with her grandchildren. 2012 will mark my third year for doing the DFW 3-Day. Please join me in my journey!

In July 2012, First Baptist Frisco has the opportunity, once again, to travel to Honduras on a mission trip with North Texas Missions (http://www.ntxmissions.org/). With the help of friends and family, last year’s mission trip was covered in full by your charitable donations. It was an incredible experience, but one that was not to be done once, and checked off the bucket list.

I no longer want to make excuses on why I shouldn’t be going on these trips.

“We are settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves.” — David Platt (Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream)

It is easy to come up with reasons I shouldn’t go.

This year, I’ve made a resolution to continue to go outside of my comfort zone. I’ve decided to not just sit on the sidelines. Do I have the money to afford the mission trip? No. Will I? That is unknown, but I am putting my trust in God for the answer.

I want to provide you with the amazing opportunity to go on mission with me with a tax-deductible donation that directly sponsors my journey to Honduras. The goal of this trip is to provide medical care for those that might not otherwise receive such attention in Honduras. While the medical attention may be catering to the physical needs of those that come, we all know that there is a much greater need for these individuals. To be loved.

“The price is certainly high for people who don’t know Christ and who live in a world where Christians shrink back from self-denying faith and settle into self-indulging faith. While Christians choose to spend their lives fulfilling the American dream instead of giving their lives to proclaiming the kingdom of God, literally billions in need of the Gospel remain in the dark” — David Platt

In my eyes, this is a near impossible task if I were doing it alone. I need raise $1475.00 in order to participate on this trip. I can’t do this without God’s provision! And while this is a monumental task in my eyes, in God’s eyes, nothing is impossible.

How can you help?

Pray for my trust to move away from my own self and to open up fully to God’s plan for me.

Tax-deductible donation to sponsor my trip (Any amount!)

Check - please make your check payable to North Texas Missions, Inc. and mail it along with a note indicating “Aaron Corcoran” (please don’t write my name on the bottom of your check as it will no longer be tax deductible for you).

Send Donations To:
North Texas Missions, Inc.
P.O. Box 424
Frisco, Texas 75034

Online – visit www.ntxmissions.org and click the PayPal logo. (To ensure proper credit, in the Support Missionary section, select “On Behalf of” and enter my name)

Forward this letter to anyone who may be interested.

Walk alongside me as I help North Texas Missions accomplish God’s will by looking after the physical needs of those in Honduras. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions! I no longer want to just be a reader of the word, but a doer of the word; to lead my family by example and not by head knowledge.

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8

Imagine life without breast cancer and what that would mean for countless families during this holiday season. More joy, more hugs, more lifetime moments. That’s why I’m walking — because I can.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to erase breast cancer. As a walker, I will raise at least $2,300 and walk 60 miles, creating awareness about breast health with every step. Funds raised impact breast cancer research and community based breast health and education programs.

If you want to celebrate the holidays with hope for the future, register to join me or support my efforts with a donation. Visit my personal fundraising page (http://www.the3day.org/goto/3dayman), which allow for secure, tax-deductible donation. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.®

Happy Holidays

The 2011 Susan G. Komen Dallas/Fort Worth 3-Day for the Cure began on a chilly Friday morning at Collin Creek Mall in Plano. The 18-mile route started with an incredible send off from the kids at Aldridge Elementary. It was the first of many schools that came out to support us. The day was filled with cheering stations and fantastic community support. Lunch was great at beautiful Valley View Park. We had plenty of sun, music and even a little bit of dancing. After we cheered the last walker into camp we had a delicious dinner (Mac n Cheese!) and celebrated our top Dallas/Fort Worth fundraisers.

Saturday’s 21-mile route started a little cold but the sun came out and it was perfect walking weather. How about the cheering stations on Saturday? The pink gorilla was back this year and Gene Simmons from ‘Kiss’ was spotted at a Grab & Go in the afternoon. There were nearly two miles of continuous cheering stations after we had lunch at the Hockaday Academy. We walked a little slower today but we made it to camp in time for dinner, a few games and the dance party.

Our final day of walking began with a quick bus ride to Ursuline Academy. We started our 15-mile walk through some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Dallas. Then it was onto the Katy Trail and through Historic Downtown Dallas past the American Airlines Center and Pioneer Plaza with the bronze steer. Lunch was at Main Street Garden – what a view of downtown Dallas! The final miles of the route wound through the Deep Ellum Arts District and into the Fair Grounds for a celebratory Closing Ceremony with our family and friends. It was an amazing end to a beautiful weekend.
